The Hog's Apothecary is a New American Beer Hall in Oakland’s Temescal district created by Chef/Owner John Streit. Settling in North Oakland after years in restaurants between L.A., S.F., and Portland, John fascinated about transforming the dingy, nondescript laundromat in his neighborhood into a restaurant where he could match his blend of California and gastropub fare with an extensive draft list featuring the best local ales available. Our mission has always been simple: Raise people’s expectation of food in a beer-centric restaurant while also showing people that great food can be made better with beer. The Hog opened it’s doors in 2013 helping to cement the Temescal neighborhood’s growing distinction as a foodie destination in the Bay Area. Our arrival coincided with the vast wave of craft breweries across California. Our menu features a regular rotation of organic, farm-direct produce and house-made delicacies to please the palate of the carnivore and vegetarian alike. We offer thirty plus craft beers, ciders, and wines on draft with an additional twenty or so in cans and bottles. The diversity of our list coupled with the care we give our beer and draft lines constantly has Hog’s Apothecary ranked among the most well-curated selections in the state. We take great pride in using the bounty and beasts of farmers who employ the highest standards of sustainability.
